Hi, I’m Raven McCandies. By day I work on the website of a major player in the hospitality industry. By night (and weekends) I’m a freelance web designer and photographer at Royal Muse Designs & Photography.
How did I get into web design?
In the late 90s I was really into manga and anime. There was a growing web community and I wanted to be a part of it. I taught myself HTML, learned how to use Photoshop and created websites on Geocities, Tripod, Lycos, and Angelfire. The OLD names in the game. I went on to develop my college sorority’s first in house website.
How did I get into photography?
I’ve always loved photography. When I was a kid I used to grab my dad’s camera and take pictures of everything I could find. To this day I still find old rolls of 110 and 35mm film around the house. I made the switch to digital cameras in the early 2000s and I was excited about this new format that allowed you to see and delete photos in camera before they were printed. One of my niches is food photography. I love to cook so it was only right that I start capturing photos of the treats I prepared. I also enjoy event photography and landscape photography.
